Naver Cloud proposes Sovereign AI strategy for military defense

Naver Cloud has introduced a ‘Defense Sovereign AI’ strategy aimed at providing the military with direct control over data and artificial intelligence models. During a defense AI seminar held in Seoul, the company proposed a framework where the military maintains command over core technologies while utilizing private-sector technical advancements within secure, closed networks.

The strategy emphasizes that the military should not merely be a consumer of AI models but should possess the authority to decide which models to apply, when to update them, and how to manage them during operational failures. Naver Cloud intends to offer a full-stack solution, integrating its proprietary large language models (LLM), cloud infrastructure, and data center capabilities to support the entire transition to military AI.

To ensure continuous improvement, the company suggested a model involving Field Deployment Engineers (FDE) who would participate in actual operations to refine performance based on real-world requirements. Naver Cloud also highlighted technical approaches such as spatial intelligence for 3D structuring of drone and sensor data, and world models to predict battlefield variables like terrain and weather in virtual environments.
