NavigateAI raises $25M to bring AI copilots to construction sites

NavigateAI, a new startup founded by former Opendoor executive Eric Wu, has raised $25 million in seed funding to address the acute labor shortage in the U.S. construction industry. The company is developing AI-powered “copilots” designed to act as digital assistants for field laborers and technicians.

These AI tools are intended to function via smartphones and Meta’s AI glasses, providing hands-free, real-time guidance. Workers can use natural language to ask questions regarding installation accuracy, safety code compliance, or technical specifications by pointing a camera at their work. The platform integrates data from blueprints, manufacturer specifications, and company policies to reduce errors and rework.

The initiative comes as the construction sector faces a significant workforce deficit. The Associated Builders and Contractors has noted that approximately 349,000 additional workers are needed to meet current demand. This pressure is intensified by the massive scale of new infrastructure projects, such as data centers, which can require between 4,000 and 6,400 workers per site.
