Navin Ramgoolam to attend major diplomatic summits in November
Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam will undertake two significant diplomatic visits in November to advocate for small island developing states, secure foreign investment, and strengthen international ties.
From November 1 to 4, Ramgoolam will travel to Antigua and Barbuda for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). The summit, which includes representatives from 56 member countries, focuses on “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.” Mauritius intends to use the platform to attract inward investment and address the vulnerabilities of small island nations regarding climate change and development risks.
Following the Commonwealth summit, the Prime Minister will travel to France for the Paris Peace Forum on November 10 and 11, following a personal invitation from President Emmanuel Macron. This visit serves as a high-level diplomatic engagement with France, particularly as Ramgoolam will be unable to attend the 20th Francophonie Summit in Cambodia later that month. The Paris Peace Forum will include a specialized Child Summit addressing education, healthcare, and children’s rights.
