AMD and Core Scientific Secure Up to 2.5 GW AI Data‑Center Capacity

AMD announced a strategic AI‑infrastructure partnership with Core Scientific, giving AMD access to more than 500 MW of U.S. data‑center capacity beginning in 2027 and the option to expand to a total of 2.5 GW. The collaboration will deploy AMD Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs and ROCm software, and includes market‑priced warrants that allow AMD to purchase Core Scientific common stock.

Core Scientific is converting former Bitcoin‑mining sites in several states into AI‑ready colocation facilities, shifting its business model toward high‑density AI workloads. The deal is intended to address growing constraints on power, land and cooling for AI compute. Following the announcement, AMD’s share price fell roughly 5‑8%, while Core Scientific’s (CORZ) stock rose as much as 10% in pre‑market trading.

The partnership is part of Core Scientific’s broader strategic transition away from cryptocurrency mining toward AI infrastructure services, a shift also highlighted by a recent $41.9 million loss incurred to cancel a Block chip purchase.
