Navitas Semiconductor sues Renesas Electronics over patent infringement

Navitas Semiconductor has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Renesas Electronics in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The lawsuit alleges that Renesas’ major gallium nitride (GaN) product lines, specifically its SuperGaN power semiconductors, infringe upon four of Navitas’ patents: U.S. Patent Nos. 9,929,079; 11,545,838; 11,770,010; and 11,862,996.

Navitas CEO Chris Allexandre stated that the company is taking action to defend its intellectual property and its investments in R&D for GaN and high-voltage silicon carbide (SiC) technologies. This legal action follows a previous patent lawsuit filed by SiC specialist Wolfspeed against Navitas in July 2026. Additionally, Renesas has previously alleged that Navitas misappropriated trade secrets by poaching employees.
