Navitime Japan launches new area-based analysis for inbound tourism

Navitime Japan has launched a new “Area Analysis” feature for its “Inbound Profiler” service, a web-based tool designed to analyze the movement and behavior of foreign tourists in Japan. The service utilizes GPS data and attribute surveys collected from users of the “Japan Travel by NAVITIME” navigation app.

Unlike previous versions that relied on municipal boundaries or fixed mesh grids, this new function allows for analysis based on custom “areas” that do not follow administrative divisions. This enables businesses, local governments, and destination management organizations (DMOs) to visualize tourism trends across broader or more specific geographic zones.

The feature provides three primary capabilities: summarizing the tourism and transportation characteristics of a selected area alongside visitor demographics and stay durations; visualizing the flow of tourists by showing which areas visitors travel to before and after a specific location; and identifying benchmark areas that share similar characteristics to help improve local marketing strategies.
