Navjot Singh Sidhu shifts focus toward media and sports
Former cricketer and politician Navjot Singh Sidhu is reportedly entering a new phase of his career, balancing sports, media, and family life. After a career spanning cricket commentary, television hosting, and active politics, Sidhu has distanced himself from active political roles following internal conflicts within the Congress party and his loss in the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
Sidhu’s political journey began in 2004 with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after being encouraged by the late Arun Jaitley. He served as a Member of Parliament for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat and later as a Rajya Sabha member. Following disagreements with the BJP, he joined the Indian National Congress in 2017, serving as a minister for tourism and cultural affairs and as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.
Recent developments suggest a shift in his focus as he moves away from frontline politics, particularly after choosing not to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. His future direction remains a subject of discussion as the 2027 Punjab elections approach.
