Navojoa flood relief: Aid delivered to thousands of families

Authorities in Navojoa, Sonora, are distributing humanitarian aid to families affected by recent heavy rains and flooding caused by Hurricane Polo. The Sistema DIF Sonora has begun delivering food packages to more than 4,000 families across various communities, including El Saneal, Bacabachi, and Buayums.

In the community of Yorentamehua, which has been heavily impacted, the Mexican Navy (Secretaría de Marina) utilized helicopters to deliver supplies to families isolated by damaged roads and rising waters. Local officials, including Mayor Jorge Alberto Elías Retes, stated that efforts are underway to rehabilitate access roads and locate families who remain cut off from communication.

State and municipal agencies are conducting censuses to identify the exact number of victims and their specific needs to prioritize aid. A collection center has also been established at the Navojoa DIF offices for public donations of food and other essential items.
