Navojoa, Mexico Cuts Water Supply for 16-Hour Infrastructure Upgrade

The municipal water agency OOMAPASN announced a scheduled suspension of potable water service in the eastern part of Navojoa, Sonora, on Thursday, 9 July. The shutdown, lasting an estimated 16‑17 hours, will allow the interconnection of the new Valle Buey 9 well, which can deliver 112 liters per second, and the repair of four major leaks in the distribution network. Work will begin after the pumps are shut off at midnight, with field operations starting around 04:00 h and service expected to resume between 20:00 and 23:00 h the same day.

More than 50 workers will operate on five fronts, using specialized machinery to minimize disruption. Residents of the affected neighborhoods were urged to store sufficient water in advance. The project is part of Mayor Jorge Alberto Elías Retes' plan to strengthen Navojoa’s hydraulic infrastructure and improve long‑term water availability for the city’s families.
