Navojoa receives 7 billion pesos for infrastructure and public works
The municipality of Navojoa, Sonora, is undergoing significant infrastructure and public service improvements through coordinated investments from federal, state, and local governments. Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño announced a total investment of 7 billion pesos, supported by President Claudia Sheinbaum, to address long-standing regional deficits in health, housing, water, and urban development for over 164,000 residents.
Key projects include the construction of a new IMSS General Zone Hospital with an investment of 2.322 billion pesos and the ‘Vivienda para el Bienestar’ program, which aims to build 7,700 homes. Additionally, 200 million pesos are being allocated to modernize the Manuel ‘Ciclón’ Echeverría stadium.
In parallel, the municipal water agency, Oomapasn, has tripled its sanitary desilting capacity to address collapsed drainage and flooding. Mayor Jorge Alberto Elías Retes reported that over 11 million pesos were spent on new desilting equipment, part of a broader 50.5 million peso machinery renewal program including excavators and water trucks to improve public health and response times.
