Navy cardiologist saves two Turkish tourists from heart attacks in Mytilene

Anastasios Milkas, an interventional cardiologist and Navy Commander serving at the Naval Hospital of Athens, successfully treated two Turkish tourists who suffered acute myocardial infarctions in Mytilene.

The patients, aged 52 and 62, were vacationing on Lesvos when they experienced heart attacks. While medical teams initially considered transferring them to hospitals in Turkey, local doctors determined that the patients could not withstand the strain of transport. Instead, they remained at the Mytilene Hospital's Infarction Unit.

Dr. Milkas, often referred to as the ‘flying heart doctor,’ performed angioplasty procedures on both men. He has traveled between Athens and Mytilene over 220 times during the last five years to support the operations of the Mytilene Hospital's Hemodynamic Laboratory. Following the successful procedures and a period of observation, the patients were cleared for discharge to return to Turkey.
