Nawara Mining Company office raid leaves two injured in Ghana

A security raid on the Nawara Mining Company office in Nsuapemso, Eastern Region, resulted in gunfire and two injuries on October 1, 2026. Personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Police Service, and National Security operatives stormed the facility in the Fanteakwa South District to arrest the company’s Managing Director, Accountant, and other staff.

The incident is part of an escalating dispute over a large-scale gold-mining concession between Nawara Mining Company and CMS & A&A PRO Mining Company. Nawara claims it has held the concession since 2011 and that its lease is valid until 2029. The company alleges that control of the site was taken despite a court injunction issued in February 2026 intended to allow them to continue operations during legal proceedings.

Local residents, including the Queenmother of Nsuapemso, Obaapayin Kyerewaa I, reported that the gunfire caused panic and forced people to seek shelter indoors. The company has previously alleged that armed individuals seized equipment and gold-bearing materials valued at over GH¢100 million, though these claims have not been independently verified. The arrested staff members were taken to the Eastern South Regional Police Command for investigation.
