Naxos holds seminar on renewable energy spatial planning

The Municipality of Naxos and Lesser Cyclades held an information seminar on October 4 to discuss renewable energy sources (RES) and the new Special Spatial Planning Framework for RES. The event addressed the potential impacts of large-scale energy installations on the natural and cultural landscape, tourism, the primary sector, and the developmental character of the islands.

Despite the critical nature of the topic for the future of Naxos and Greek islands, attendance was lower than expected, with the municipal theater only half full. Notably, most municipal councilors from the ruling majority were absent, with only the Mayor and members from Leonidas Chatziandreou’s faction in attendance.

The seminar is part of an initiative by the Municipality and the Inter-party Committee to provide scientific and legal documentation for local positions and to organize future actions regarding RES installation plans.
