Naxos sports clubs seek use of school facilities amid renovations

Sports clubs in Naxos are seeking alternative training locations due to extensive renovation works currently underway at both the outdoor and indoor sports facilities. The ongoing construction has significantly disrupted the daily operations of local athletic associations.

In response, the Municipal Committee for Primary and Secondary Education of the Municipality of Naxos and Lesser Cyclades held an emergency meeting on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. The committee unanimously recommended that the Municipal Council approve the use of seven school athletic spaces during specific afternoon hours to accommodate the clubs.

The proposed locations include basketball and volleyball courts at the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Primary Schools of Naxos, the General Lyceum of Naxos, the school in Tragia (Chalkieio), and the Filotito Primary School. Additionally, the courtyards of the 1st and 2nd Junior High Schools of Naxos have been suggested for track and field needs. These measures aim to support clubs such as Pannaxiakos A.O. (Track and Field), A.S. Apollon Naxos, and APAS Naxos.
