Nayagarh: Student dies following alleged medical negligence at Bhapur CHC
An 18-year-old girl, identified as Santoshi Behera, died following the administration of an injection at the Bhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in the Nayagarh district of Odisha.
According to her father, Gopal Behera, the deceased had been suffering from a fever since Sunday. When her condition failed to improve, the family sought treatment at the health centre on Tuesday morning. The family alleges that after a doctor administered an injection and a second round of saline, the girl’s condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to her death.
The incident triggered protests at the hospital by the victim's family and local residents, who accused the medical staff of negligence. Amid the rising tension, the attending doctor reportedly fled the facility. Police from the Fatehgarh police station arrived at the scene to manage the protesters and have initiated an investigation. The girl’s body has been sent for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
