Nayarit authorities investigate death of teenager shot during police pursuit

Authorities in Nayarit are investigating the death of 16-year-old Diego Armando Salas, who died from gunshot wounds sustained during a police pursuit in Tepic. The incident occurred on October 3 in the Infonavit Los Fresnos neighborhood when state police opened fire on a white Mazda vehicle.

Following the initial shots, the vehicle fled toward Insurgentes Avenue and eventually stopped in the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz neighborhood. Officers discovered that Salas had sustained two gunshot wounds to the head. He was transported to a medical center, where he remained under care until his death on October 8.

The Nayarit State Attorney General's Office is currently conducting forensic analysis on a bullet extracted from the victim's skull to determine if it was fired by law enforcement weapons. While initial reports suggested the vehicle's occupants were armed, subsequent information indicated that no weapons were found inside the unit.

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) has confirmed that the involved officers have been removed from operational duties pending investigations by both the Attorney General's Office and the Internal Affairs Directorate. No arrests have been reported at this time.
