Nayarit authorities uncover suspected extermination and incineration site

Authorities in Xalisco, Nayarit, have uncovered a site suspected of being an extermination center used for the systematic incineration of human remains. The location, known locally as La Curva or El Dragón, was identified following an anonymous tip sent to the Nayarit State Prosecutor's Office in early October.

State Prosecutor Ludmila Heredia Verdugo reported the discovery of an artisanal furnace designed to incinerate bodies within drums. Investigators believe a mixture of diesel, gasoline, and soap was used to ensure the substances adhered to victims' skin and clothing to facilitate combustion. Following incineration, the carbonized remains were allegedly discarded into a nearby stream.

In addition to the incineration site, authorities have identified a clandestine grave containing bodies that appear to be more recent. Search operations are ongoing, involving the Nayarit State Prosecutor's Office, the National Search Commission (CNB), and local collectives of searching mothers (madres buscadoras). While bone fragments, clothing, and personal belongings have been recovered, the official number of victims has not yet been determined. The CNB has deployed specialized technical teams to assist with the forensic processing and identification of the remains.
