Nayarit leads Mexico in tourism investment, surpassing Quintana Roo

Nayarit has emerged as the leader in programmed tourism investment in Mexico, surpassing Quintana Roo according to data from the federal Secretariat of Tourism for the second quarter of 2026. Nayarit accounts for 20 percent of the national investment total, representing approximately $9.281 billion USD across 25 projects.

This investment is largely concentrated in the Riviera Nayarit coastal corridor, specifically within the municipalities of Bahía de Banderas, Compostela, and San Blas. Projects include hotel developments, residential tourism complexes, mixed-use developments, and tourism infrastructure. While sun and beach tourism remains a primary driver, the portfolio also includes ecotourism, cultural, and gastronomic initiatives.

Nationally, the tourism investment portfolio totals over $47.53 billion USD across 925 projects. At a national level, sun and beach tourism represents 27 percent of projects, followed by cultural tourism at 24 percent, business tourism at 17 percent, and ecotourism at 10 percent.
