Nayarit prosecutor reveals all state and municipal police are infiltrated

Nayarit State Attorney General Elvia Ludmila Heredia Verduzco has revealed that all police forces in the state, including those across 20 municipalities and the state-level force, are infiltrated by organized crime. Investigations uncovered an internal structure within these law enforcement agencies designed to leak information regarding official operations to criminal groups.

In response, authorities have removed several high-ranking officers to preserve the “factor sorpresa” (element of surprise) during operations involving the seizure of drugs, weapons, and vehicles. The prosecutor noted that the removed officials were accustomed to operating without oversight, including ignoring extortion and failing to assist victims.

The revelation follows the recent murders of lawyers Alejandro Ruiz Velasco and Alonso Ruiz Rivera. According to Governor Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, the deceased lawyers were linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and had previously threatened the Governor and the Attorney General. The threats were reportedly made after the state government refused to return 800 hectares of land in Riviera Nayarit to their clients following the discovery of a fraud involving nearly 100 billion pesos.
