Nayden Todorov to conduct Operalia final in Shanghai

Bulgarian conductor Nayden Todorov has been invited by tenor Placido Domingo to conduct the operatic portion of the Operalia competition final in Shanghai, China. The event is scheduled for November 1 at the Shangyin Opera House.

The invitation follows Todorov’s successful leadership of the Sofia Philharmonic during the 2025 Operalia competition held in Bulgaria. For the upcoming final in Shanghai, Todorov and Domingo will share conducting duties: Todorov will lead the operatic performances by the finalists, while Domingo will conduct the zarzuela segment.

Operalia, founded by Domingo in 1993, is a prestigious international platform for discovering young operatic talent. The final concert will be broadcast on Mezzo, a leading international television channel for classical music and opera.
