NAZA documentary tops Italian box office

The documentary “NAZA”, directed by Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, has achieved significant box office success in Italy, surpassing the re-release of Marvel’s “Avengers Endgame: Encore”. After its premiere on September 28, the film earned approximately €1.1 million by its second day, leading to an extension of its initially planned three-day theatrical run.

The film, which received the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival, investigates the Israeli military’s operations in Gaza. It features testimonies from 24 Israeli soldiers and intelligence officers, filmed secretly at night in Tel Aviv. The documentary examines the use of artificial intelligence and automated surveillance in military targeting systems.

To protect the identities of the participants, their faces and voices were digitally altered. The filmmakers, in collaboration with The Guardian, have announced that the documentary will be made available for free online in mid-November. It is scheduled to premiere in the United Kingdom on October 15 and will be released in over 50 territories in the coming weeks.
