Nazaré beach swimming ban lifted after water quality tests

The swimming ban at Nazaré beach has been lifted following new water quality analyses that showed results compatible with standard bathing conditions. The restriction was originally implemented after an analysis on August 18 detected high microbiological levels, including E. coli counts of approximately 8,000. However, subsequent counter-analyses revealed significantly lower levels, around 63, leading local authorities to conclude the initial result was an anomaly.

In other regional developments, the Praia da Fontinha in Porto Santo is expected to reopen following a temporary closure caused by a cement residue spill during the construction of a water catchment gallery. Authorities clarified that the incident was accidental and did not involve biological contamination.

Additionally, the Municipal Pool in Viana do Alentejo has been temporarily closed as a preventive health measure after tests detected Pseudomonas aeruginosa levels exceeding reference values. This follows a similar closure in Estremoz, where staphylococci were detected in municipal pool water.
