Nazaré prepares sister-city partnership with Half Moon Bay

The municipality of Nazaré is preparing to establish a sister-city relationship with Half Moon Bay, California, through a memorandum of understanding. The partnership aims to foster cooperation between the two coastal communities, which share strong maritime traditions and international recognition as big-wave surfing destinations, specifically through Praia do Norte and Mavericks.

The agreement intends to create opportunities for collaboration in areas such as culture, heritage, education, youth, surfing, and maritime safety. Mayor Serafim António noted the potential for sharing knowledge and experiences among professionals, associations, and young people in both locations.

Separately, the Nazaré Municipality held a working meeting with the Confraria de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré and the Leiria District Social Security Center. The meeting focused on strengthening social support networks and addressing the increasing demand for social services. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to engage with local private institutions of social solidarity (IPSS) to better understand and support community needs.
