Nazilli Devlet Hastanesi performs first coronary bypass surgery

Nazilli Devlet Hastanesi in Aydın, Turkey, successfully performed its first coronary artery bypass surgery through inter-institutional cooperation. The operation allowed a patient to receive specialized treatment locally without the need for transfer to another city.

The patient, 61-year-old Elif Koşar, underwent coronary angiography in late September 2026 following complaints of chest tightness and difficulty during exertion. Following a multidisciplinary evaluation by surgical teams from both Nazilli Devlet Hastanesi and Ankara Bilkent Şehir Hastanesi Yüksek İhtisas Heart and Vascular Hospital, a bypass procedure was scheduled.

The surgery was conducted on October 5, 2026, by a joint medical team including Prof. Dr. Ümit Kervan, specialists Prof. Dr. Sinan Sabit Kocabeyoğlu and Uzm. Dr. Abdulkadir Yılmaz, Uzm. Dr. Asım Bülent Yamak, and Nazilli Devlet Hastanesi specialist Dr. Gökhun Akkan. The patient has since been discharged in stable condition.
