Italian Jewish teens attacked by neo‑Nazi group in Bulgarian hotel

On 2 August 2026 a group of neo‑Nazi skinheads (naziskin) attempted to force entry into a hotel in Sofia, Bulgaria, that was hosting dozens of Italian Jewish adolescents from Rome and Milan, along with their educators. The attackers shouted “Sieg Heil”, performed Nazi salutes and threatened the youths. Bulgarian police intervened, dispersing the first wave, but the assailants returned and blocked the entrance again before eventually withdrawing.

No injuries were reported. Victor Fadlun, president of the Rome Jewish Community, condemned the incident and demanded a swift Bulgarian investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed solidarity with the young people and denounced the antisemitic act. Bulgarian authorities have opened a criminal investigation to identify those responsible.
