NBA Europe League Project Fails to Secure Club Investors

The NBA’s plan to launch a Europe-wide basketball league has not attracted any binding offers from top European basketball clubs or major football teams. The investment deadline, extended to 29 June, closed with only tentative proposals from private funds and wealthy individuals, none of which were confirmed. NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum noted that the league is “ready to go forward alone.”

Simultaneously, the EuroLeague is converting its licensing system to a franchise model, adding 6‑8 new teams that will each pay between €50‑90 million, expected to raise about €400 million overall. This shift raises the cost for any European club to join a rival NBA league, potentially up to €100 million when exit penalties are considered.
