NBA Europe league slated to begin in October 2027

The NBA and FIBA are finalizing plans for a new pan‑European club competition, with the league expected to launch in October 2027. The announced format calls for 16 teams, including 12 permanent franchises and four additional spots to be filled based on performance criteria.

NBA deputy commissioner Mark Tatum said the project is in its “final phase” and that discussions are ongoing with EuroLeague about possible cooperation, though the league will proceed even without an agreement. Commissioner Adam Silver confirmed the timeline, noting that franchise proposals are due by the end of June and that the league aims to start in the 2027‑28 season.

Both officials highlighted strong interest from European clubs and the potential for the league to reshape the continent’s basketball landscape.
