NBA Finals Game 3 in New York marred by Spurs fan assaults

The third game of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs was played at Madison Square Garden on June 9, 2026. The Spurs won 115‑111, narrowing the series to 2‑1. The event attracted a large number of celebrities, including Michael J. Fox, Adam Sandler, Tracy Morgan and rapper RZA, adding a glamorous atmosphere to the arena.

Outside the venue, a fan zone in Bryant Park turned violent as several Spurs supporters were attacked by members of a hostile crowd. Police reported five officers injured, twenty‑one arrests and eight criminal charges, with at least one fan forced to the ground. French‑born Spurs star Victor Wembanyama called the episode "unacceptable" and urged respect for opponents. Authorities are investigating the incidents and reviewing security measures for future games.
