NBA Finals officiating controversy sparks Knicks-Spurs dispute
The NBA confirmed that the only error in Game 2 of the 2026 Finals was a technical foul on Knicks center Mitchell Robinson, which the league later rescinded. The league’s statement read: “Mitchell Robinson’s (NYK) technical foul against Victor Wembanyama (SAS) … has been rescinded upon league review.”
Fans and pundits argued the referees were shielding Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama. Skip Bayless wrote on X, “Obviously not a tech on Robinson. Wemby so overprotected by the league.” Former player Richard Jefferson added, “This is normal basketball… you have to call it even down the middle for both players.” The technical call and other missed calls, such as an alleged kick‑ball by Luke Kornet, fueled criticism of the officials’ handling of the game.
