NBA teams unveil retro uniforms for ABA 50th anniversary

Four NBA franchises—the Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs—have unveiled special ‘Classic Edition’ uniforms and themed courts to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1976 merger between the NBA and the American Basketball Association (ABA).

The Denver Nuggets will wear orange uniforms inspired by their former identity as the Denver Rockets, appearing in them for nine games during the 2026/27 season. The San Antonio Spurs will debut silver and black uniforms reminiscent of the George Gervin era, while the Indiana Pacers will utilize a navy and gold palette with a plaid-patterned court. The Brooklyn Nets will feature tricolor designs to celebrate their 60th anniversary and ABA roots.

Each team will also introduce custom court designs to match the retro aesthetic. The initiative aims to honor the historical roots of the four original ABA franchises that joined the NBA half a century ago.
