NBA investigation into Clippers salary cap allegations sparks media dispute
The NBA investigation into whether the Los Angeles Clippers circumvented the salary cap to compensate Kawhi Leonard has become a subject of public dispute between major media outlets and the league.
Recent reporting from ESPN suggested that NBA investigators found “no evidence” that Clippers owner Steve Ballmer used a sponsorship deal with the firm Aspiration to secretly funnel money to Leonard. However, the NBA issued a statement disputing ESPN’s report, claiming it contained “numerous and significant inaccuracies.”
Journalist Pablo Torre, who has led much of the investigative work on the matter, has stated that his investigation remains ongoing, citing unresolved questions regarding potential negotiations between the Clippers and the NBA. Similarly, analyst Amin Elhassan expressed skepticism toward the findings, suggesting that the rapid response from the league and the nature of the reporting might indicate an attempt to influence the narrative.
