NBA partners with Kalshi and Polymarket for prediction markets

The NBA has announced commercial partnerships with prediction market platforms Kalshi and Polymarket, designating them as the league’s preferred prediction market exchanges. Under these agreements, both platforms will gain access to official NBA intellectual property for promotional use and official league data provided by Sportradar to settle authorized contracts.

To protect the integrity of the game, the NBA has implemented a strict regulatory framework. This includes a ban on league and team personnel trading NBA-related event contracts and requirements for the platforms to share information regarding suspicious trading activities or ongoing investigations. The league also expanded its existing relationship with DraftKings to include prediction markets.

Simultaneously, the NBA signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to facilitate information sharing and oversight. This move aims to mitigate risks of insider trading and fraud. The NBA joins Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Hockey League (NHL) as major sports organizations that have established similar frameworks with the CFTC, distinguishing its approach from the NFL, which has expressed concerns regarding state versus federal jurisdiction over such markets.
