NBA performance trends show impact of back-to-back schedules

Analysis of the 2025-26 NBA season reveals that teams face significant performance challenges during back-to-back game schedules. On the second night of a back-to-back, teams won approximately 44% of their games, compared to a 51% win rate with standard rest. The collective average NET rating dropped by 1.5 points during these zero-rest games.

While many bottom-tier teams struggled, such as Washington (1-15) and Brooklyn (1-13), the Oklahoma City Thunder showed a notable discrepancy. Despite being title co-favorites in some prediction markets, the Thunder posted a 0.3 NET rating in zero-rest games, a sharp decline from their season-long 11.5 NET rating. Houston also underperformed significantly on the second night of back-to-backs, posting a 7-7 record and underperforming their season-long NET rating by 6 points.
