NBA preseason begins with Cavaliers and Pistons matchups

NBA preseason action begins with key matchups for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Detroit Pistons.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are preparing for their preseason opener against the Boston Celtics on October 8. Much of the focus is on new addition Peyton Watson, who signed a four-year deal and is expected to provide perimeter length and defensive versatility at the small forward position. The team looks to integrate Watson into a core featuring Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Pistons kick off their preseason against the Phoenix Suns at Little Caesars Arena. The Pistons' roster features significant offseason additions, including Jalen Duren and Ausar Thompson, as well as new shooting options in Duncan Robinson and Isaiah Joe. The game serves as a first look at the team's updated offensive and defensive schemes under the leadership of Cade Cunningham.
