NBA 2026-27 season begins with major injuries and rookie debuts

The 2026-27 NBA season has commenced with significant storylines involving both veteran movements and rookie performances. AJ Dybansta, the number one overall pick for the Washington Wizards, has drawn comparisons to elite talents like Jaylen Brown following strong preseason and early performances.

However, the opening week was marred by a severe injury to Oklahoma City Thunder player Jalen Williams. Williams suffered a gruesome left leg injury following a mid-air collision against the L.A. Clippers, a setback for a team favored to contend for a championship.

Other notable early-season developments include Ty Jerome’s career-high 45-point performance for the Memphis Grizzlies and Tyler Herro’s integration into the Milwaukee Bucks following a major offseason trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo. Additionally, the NBA G League draft saw the Texas Legends select former NBA player Jeremy Sochan with the first overall pick.
