NBA-SBL to host tourism investment retreat in Uyo
The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) has announced a four-day Tourism Retreat and Roundtable to be held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, from October 1 to 4, 2026. The event, organized by the NBA-SBL Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Committee, will focus on the theme, ‘Unlocking Investment in the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Sector: The Role of Data and Innovative Financing.’
NBA-SBL Chairman Baba Alokolaro characterized the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors as Nigeria’s ‘new oil,’ noting that the country possesses numerous untapped destinations with significant economic potential. The retreat aims to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including lawyers, investors, financiers, regulators, and policymakers, to discuss legal reforms, infrastructure, and innovative financing models.
By hosting the event at the Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort in Uyo, the organization intends to move legal and regulatory discussions beyond traditional commercial hubs like Lagos. Kemi Afesojaye, Chairman of the Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Committee, emphasized that realizing the sector's potential requires more than identifying destinations, necessitating reliable data and appropriate commercial structures.
