NBA teams face injury and depth concerns ahead of season opener

As the 2026-2027 NBA season approaches, the Dallas Mavericks are managing injury concerns regarding newly acquired Santi Aldama. Aldama, who underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in March, missed all four preseason games. Head coach Dusty May stated he is unsure if Aldama will be available for the season opener, though he noted the player is “getting much, much closer” following recent practice.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks enter their season opener following a four-game preseason winning streak. Despite improved overall depth, the team faces potential challenges regarding frontcourt stability. Specifically, the Hawks lack significant depth at the small forward, power forward, and third center positions, which may pose risks if injuries occur to the starting rotation.
