NBC develops modern police procedural based on The Great Gatsby
NBC is developing a new television series titled “Gatsby,” which offers a modern-day police procedural reimagining of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel. The project is being developed by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, with writers and executive producers Jake Coburn and Jason Tracey.
The series features a significant departure from the original text by transforming the characters into investigators. Jay Gatsby is portrayed as a charming detective with a talent for reading human behavior, while Nicole “Nicky” Carraway serves as his partner. In this version, Nicky is a decorated New York State Police detective who also harbors ambitions of becoming a writer.
This adaptation marks another entry in the long history of “The Great Gatsby” screen translations, following notable versions such as the 1974 Francis Ford Coppola film and the 2013 Baz Luhrmann production. The series is currently in development, and no official cast or release date has been announced.
