Sydney Kings win NBL championship amid WNBL expansion talks

The Sydney Kings have secured their sixth NBL championship after defeating the Adelaide 36ers 3-2 in a five-game series. The deciding game five went into overtime at Qudos Bank Arena before the Kings took control. Kendric Davis was named Championship Series MVP, recording 52 total assists during the series.

In the WNBL, expansion plans are underway with a Brisbane-based team potentially entering the league as early as next season. The Brisbane Bullets have launched a bid for the league's 10th license, supported in part by WNBA star Angel Reese. WNBL leadership noted Brisbane as a strong candidate due to high participation rates and upcoming Olympic infrastructure.

In the NBL, Melbourne United has undergone a coaching transition, replacing Dean Vickerman with Jacob Chance, who becomes the league's youngest head coach at 32. Meanwhile, the Brisbane Bullets are restructuring their roster under head coach Will Weaver, focusing on a new strategic identity for the upcoming season.
