NBL27 update: JackJumpers overcome injuries while Brisbane faces player setbacks
The NBL27 season continues with notable performances and injury challenges for several teams. The Tasmania JackJumpers hold a 4-1 record despite a significant injury list that includes Bryce Hamilton, Majok Deng, Anthony Drmic, and Ben Ayre. To address these absences, head coach Scott Roth has brought in replacements Biwali Bayles and Kody Stattmann. In a recent Round 4 matchup, the JackJumpers defeated the Illawarra Hawks 122-112, highlighted by David Johnson becoming the first player in league history to score over 30 points in under 21 minutes.
In contrast, the Brisbane Bullets are facing setbacks with Sam McDaniel, who is sidelined for approximately six weeks due to a lower-leg injury. This follows a series of recent injuries for McDaniel, including a shoulder injury in the 2024-25 season and an ankle injury in NBL26. Brisbane coach Will Weaver noted McDaniel’s resilience and stated that the team has a plan in place to return him to peak fitness.
