NBTC faces leadership crisis as board splits over Chairman's suspension

A significant structural conflict has emerged within Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC). Following an administrative order from the NBTC Selection Committee, Chairman Dr. Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck was ordered to suspend his duties due to disqualifying characteristics. The order includes an administrative fine of 50,000 baht per day for non-compliance.

This led to a split in the board’s proceedings on October 2, 2069. While the original meeting scheduled by the Chairman could not proceed due to a lack of quorum, a majority of six board members convened a separate special meeting in a different room. During this session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supat Supachalasai was voted in as the temporary acting chairman to address pending agendas. The situation has raised urgent legal questions regarding which authority the NBTC Secretariat and Secretary-General must follow.
