NC-BC proposes law for 44,000 protected homes in Canary Islands
The Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) political group has submitted a bill to the Canary Islands Parliament aimed at addressing the regional housing emergency. The proposed law seeks to guarantee the right to protected and affordable housing by establishing a target of 44,000 new protected homes over the next five years.
Key components of the proposal include tax reductions for renting and purchasing primary residences, a new tax on large property owners, and an annual investment of 256 million euros. Additionally, the bill suggests the temporary transfer of vacant properties held by banks and investment funds to address the shortage. The initiative aims to increase the stock of protected housing to 4% of the total residential park, up from the current level of less than 2%.
