NCAA admits replay error altered Michigan-Western Michigan game outcome
The NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Oversight Committee has acknowledged that replay protocols were not correctly followed during the September 5 game between Michigan and Western Michigan. The error occurred when a replay official added one second back to the clock, allowing Michigan to score a 13-12 victory on a Hail Mary pass.
The committee stated that had the proper protocols been followed, the outcome of the game would have been different. However, the NCAA confirmed it lacks the authority to overturn the result. Under current playing rules, once a referee declares a contest final, no appeals regarding the outcome are permitted.
