NCAA eligibility rules and legal rulings impact college basketball players

Recent legal challenges and rule changes regarding NCAA eligibility are significantly impacting college basketball players. Following the implementation of the ‘5-in-5’ rule, several athletes from the 2022 recruiting class are utilizing legal avenues to secure additional playing time.

AJ Storr has committed to UNLV, marking his fifth collegiate program in five years. His previous stops include St. John’s, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Ole Miss. Storr, who previously averaged 16.8 points per game at Wisconsin, is expected to be eligible to play in the 2026-27 season.

In a separate legal development, former Florida Gators Xaivian Lee and Micah Handlogten are pursuing additional seasons of eligibility. Lee was among over 70 players granted a temporary restraining order in California, allowing him to enter the transfer portal. Handlogten is seeking a fifth year following a court ruling in Colorado that barred the NCAA from denying certain medical hardship waivers. Both players are currently exploring transfer options.
