NCC cadets launch 248-km Brahmaputra sailing expedition

A 10-day sailing expedition titled ‘MENU 2026’ has commenced from Biswanath Ghat in Assam, involving 100 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from the 48 and 49 Assam Naval Units. The journey aims to honor the legacy of the Ahom General Bir Lachit Borphukan, known for his resistance against Mughal forces.

The expedition will cover 248 kilometers across six districts—Biswanath, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Darrang, Morigaon, and Kamrup Metropolitan—concluding at Pandu Port in Guwahati on November 6. The cadets will travel an average of 20 to 25 kilometers per day using a fleet of DK Whaler boats.

Beyond adventure and teamwork, the mission includes community outreach and social service initiatives. These programs will focus on women’s empowerment, drug abuse awareness, cleanliness drives, and civic sense through interactions with local residents and students along the river route.
