NCC girl cadets begin high-altitude Parang La expedition
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the National Cadet Corps (NCC) ‘Aparajita – Parang La 2026’ high-altitude expedition in New Delhi. The trek involves 28 girl cadets, with an average age of 19, undertaking a 250-kilometre journey over 30 days.
The expedition will traverse the Parang La Pass at an altitude of 5,578 metres, connecting the Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh with the Changthang region of Ladakh. The route is noted for its demanding terrain, including glaciers, snowfields, and high-altitude deserts.
A team of three women officers representing the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force will lead the cadets. Singh emphasized that the expedition aims to foster leadership, discipline, and mental resilience among young women, describing it as a demonstration of ‘Nari Shakti’.
