NCC sailing expedition from Farakka to Kolkata flagged off
The Hooghly Sankalp Menu 2026, a multi-district river sailing expedition, has officially commenced from Farakka to Kolkata. The event was flagged off at the Farakka Lockgate Jetty by Major General APS Chahal, Additional Director General of the NCC West Bengal and Sikkim Directorates.
Sixty selected male and female NCC cadets from the West Bengal and Sikkim directorates will participate in the 20-day journey. The expedition covers a challenging 410-kilometer distance along the Hooghly River. Described as a ‘floating classroom,’ the program aims to help cadets master maritime skills, character building, leadership, and teamwork.
During the journey, the crew will stop at seven key locations to conduct community development and social outreach programs. The cadets will also engage with local populations to raise awareness on various issues and learn about regional cultures and customs. As part of an environmental initiative, 150 saplings were planted during the flag-off ceremony under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
