NCCE calls for media partnerships and action against vote buying in Ghana

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in Ghana is calling for enhanced collaboration between state institutions, the media, and civil society to strengthen democratic engagement. NCCE Chairperson Kathleen Addy emphasized that media partnerships are vital to amplifying civic education initiatives and reaching a broader population.

Addy also highlighted the media's constitutional responsibility to uphold democratic principles and hold the government accountable. Additionally, the Speaker of Parliament, represented by Shaibu Mahama, advocated for increased investment in civic education programs targeting young people, such as Civic Education Clubs and Project Citizen.

Separately, NCCE Eastern Regional Director Ophelia Nana Yaa Ankrah warned against the rising influence of money and inducements in democratic processes. She noted that vote-buying and corruption pose a threat to democratic values, observing that the culture of inducement has even reached primary school elections.
