NCDMB announces winners of national undergraduate essay competition

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has announced the winners of its 10th Annual National Undergraduate Essay Competition. The competition, which focused on ‘Promoting Manufacturing for Sustainable Local Content Development’, received approximately 5,000 entries from 52 universities across Nigeria.

Wisdom David Fabunmi, a physiotherapy student at the University of Ilorin, was named the overall winner, receiving N1 million, a laptop, and a plaque. The first runner-up, Joy Oghogho Enogieru from the University of Benin, received N700,000 and a laptop, while Ahmadu Kodan Yusuf from Ahmadu Bello University took third place with N500,000 and a laptop.

The NCDMB stated that the initiative is part of a broader strategy to engage the younger generation in the oil and gas industry and foster academic interest in local content development. By promoting research and analytical thinking, the board aims to build a talent pipeline to support local manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign technical expertise and imported equipment, as mandated by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act.
