Náchod reopens historic IDA colonnade to revive local spa industry
The city of Náchod has reopened the renovated historic IDA colonnade in the Běloves district, marking a significant step toward restoring the local spa industry. The reconstruction of the late 19th-century neoclassical building, which had fallen into disrepair after the spas ceased operations in the 1990s, cost more than 24 million CZK.
The project included restoring the facades, decorative elements, and the roof, as well as preserving the characteristic tower and the mineral water spring. A new technological extension was also completed in 2023 to facilitate the treatment and distribution of IDA mineral water. The renovation is part of the EU-supported Czech-Polish project Balneum Glacensis.
In addition to the architectural restoration, the site now features an exhibition on spa traditions and a kinetic light installation by Preciosa Lighting. The city is also investing over 70 million CZK into a spa park to connect the colonnade with the Metuje riverbank. Mayor Jan Birke indicated that medical services, including rehabilitation and diabetes treatment, could return to the area within approximately three years.
